Sukh Initiative primed by Aman Health Care Services is being implemented as a family planning program with dedicated support of a consortium of eight partners. These partners possess the necessary human and technical expertise and coordinate all the activities with the Program Management Unit lead by the Head of Sukh Initiative.



AMAN HEALTH CARE SERVICES

Aman Health Care Services is a part of Aman Foundation. It is a three-pronged healthcare eco system with outreach initiatives to address essential healthcare issues. The core components of this strategy bring healthcare to doorsteps of the most vulnerable, provide care during transport and the establishment of accessible healthcare facilities for mothers and children.

These specialized healthcare services are designed to address largely treatable diseases that cause approximately 40% of all deaths, particularly related to mother and child heath.

Two programs have been designed in order to address mother and child healthcare needs, and assist in the identification and treatment of easy to diagnose diseases. Aman Telehealth program provides access to triage and medical advice the phone; and Community Health Workers Program that provides health promotion, disease prevention and disease treatment at home.

Work under Sukh Initiative is divided between seven implementing partners and a measurement partner, while strategic oversight and leadership for enhancing integration of all aspects of the project is provided by a Project Management Unit.

The Program Management Unit also allocates grants, and ensures regular project reporting.

Aman Telehealth

Partner for telehealth services

Aman Telehealth is a 24/7 health helpline service facility, providing timely health advice and referral information in over five languages via medical software containing over 85 medical algorithms and 600 disease summaries. This service can be accessed by dialing 9123 from mobile networks and 111-11-9123 on landlines. Trained Telehealth nurses backed by trained doctors, nutritionist and mental health counselors provide services to an average call volume of 600 to 700 inbound and outbound calls a day. Aman Telehealth maps health facilities, including hospitals, maternity homes, diagnostic centers and blood banks, mainly in Karachi and some other parts of Pakistan, and has a database of over 10,000 private healthcare providers and 3,500 healthcare facilities about their contact information, working hours, fee structure and more. Shazina Masud | CEO - Aman Health Care Services

Ms. Shazina Masud brings over 20 years of experience in private sector marketing and sales, including experience in social marketing and social franchising of reproductive health products and services. Ms. Masud has been working in the development sector for the last ten years and has experince of leading on country projects in Africa and Asia. Since March 2018, Shazina has joined as an Executive Director with Aman Health. In the private sector, Ms. Masud’s professional focus was on Aviation Marketing, where she headed operations for a Joint Venture between Pakistan’s national carrier and Abacus, a Singapore based Global Distribution System. She was aslo based in Spain for five years as Country head for Spain and Portugal with Pakistan International Airlines. She has a Masters in Business Administration from the Institute of Business Administration, University of Karachi, Pakistan and is in the process of completing a MS in Creativity in Change and Leadership from Buffalo College, New York.

Dr Haris Ahmed | Head - Sukh Initiative

Dr Haris Ahmed joined Sukh Initiative’s Program Management Unit in 2014. Sukh Initiative will reach out to one million population in the underserved areas of Karachi to improve family planning and reproductive health services. Dr Ahmed possess over 20 years of experience in the delivery of global health provisions which include projects regarding: sexual health; family planning; child nutrition; safe water solutions; and emergency response action. He was the Director Programs, Pathfinder International, and has also worked with JHU-CCP; PSI affiliate Greenstar Social Marketing; Save the Children US; and Shifa Medical College. He is the founder and executive council member of White Ribbon Alliance, Pakistan.

Aazia Rafiq | Deputy Head - Sukh Initiative

Aazia Rafiq is a development sector professional with expertise in capacity development, programme management and research. She has professional experience spanning over 14 years of leading community centric interventions across Pakistan. At present, she is serving as Deputy Head of Department at Sukh Initiative, Aman Healthcare Services. Aazia holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi and Masters in Information Technology from the Hamdard University. Besides serving as a visiting faculty at SZABIST, she is a certified trainer by the Business Edge, IFC-World Bank and a facilitator of the British Council’s Active Citizens program. She is actively involved in Community Development projects and enjoys reading and making flower arrangements as a hobby.

Lutaf A. Mangrio | Head of Aman Community Health Program

Lutaf Ali has more than 10 years of experience and has proven in the field of community development, reproductive health and family planning. Mr Mangrio has been associated with Aman Health Care Services since 2013 as Manager Monitoring, Advocacy and Coordination. Prior to joining Aman health, he was the General Manager– Social Marketing at Health and Nutrition Development Society where he was involved in the strategic planning. At HANDS, he was part of the team who successfully implemented the FALAH (Family Advancement for Life and Health) project. He started his carrier at Aga Khan University as Research Officer and was later moved to National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) where he served for three years in Volunteerism for Community Development program. Mr Mangrio did M.Sc. in anthropology from Quaid e Azam University, Islamabad. He has received certification in ‘Scaling up projects’ from ExpandNet, USA. He has presented research papers at various national and international forums i.e. 7th APCRSHR at Manila, Philippines; and ICFP 2016 at Bali, Indonesia. Mr Mangrio is the member of Pakistan Reproductive Health Network-PRHN and Pakistan Alliance for Post-abortion Care.

Dr Laila Shah | Director (Sukh Initiative) - Jhpiego

Dr Laila Shah has been working in the public health sector for more than 20 years. She has served various national and international organizations and has been providing leadership, technical guidance, and strategic vision for various programs. Dr Shah has implemented many successful family planning projects nationwide. She was actively involved in the development of several family planning training curriculum; service delivery manuals; and information, education and communication material. She has conducted several research programs on innovative contraceptive technology which were published in international journals. She has also presented her work at numerous national and international conferences. She has conducted reproductive health related programs on FM radio and TV channels. She has received many awards and honors for her invaluable contribution and professionalism to family planning program.

Mr Khaqan Sikander is a versatile, holistic management executive with extensive experience directing firms through strategic planning, effective management of staff and budgets. Effective high-profile operational roles involving making high-stakes decisions and overcoming complex challenges. He has hands-on experience of working in cross-cultural multi-lingual environments including conflict-zones / areas across Pakistan and with United Nations in Africa (UNIDO Senegal 2009), Latin America (UNESCO Costa Rica 2007) and Middle East (UNRWA Lebanon 2006) Mr Sikander has a Masters degree in Management, Economics & Law (Diplomacy & Strategic Negotiations) from Universite Paris Sud XI and has a bachelors in Economics and Interdisciplinary Studies in French, Spanish & Arabic, University of Arizona.

Irfan Hayee | Senior Program Officer (Sukh Initiative) - Center for Communication Programs Pakistan

Irfan Hayee has a diverse work experience of over 15 years with a multilateral intergovernmental organization working at regional level for scientific and technological capacity building, networking and expert exchange. He has coordinated various projects including an ICT-based research and development project that provided tele-health and distance education services in the Northern Areas of Pakistan , in collaboration with IDRC-Canada and the ‘Industrial Information Network (IIN)’ for the development and provision of sustainable livelihoods for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which was developed in collaboration with UNIDO & SMEDA. His work portfolio also includes event management, communication, documentation and publications. He has coordinated the organization of 25 national and international capacity building events in and across Pakistan and has supported the publication of many scientific books and journals as an editor and co-author.

Sana is Project Manager (Sukh Initiative) at Aahung where she is overseeing various aspects of the planning and implementation of the program. In the past, she has worked with various academic institutions and development sector organisations, including NED University of Engineering and Technology, The Palladium Group and Cardiff University. She holds a master level degree in Social Anthropology of Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies University of London, with a particular focus on development issues in South Asia. Dr Shahnaz Shallwani | Project Manager (Sukh Initiative) - DKT

Dr Shahnaz Shallwani, started my professional career of medical doctor as service provider, manager, researcher and instructor in different offices under public sector in health and population field. After doing my MPH, I joined UNFPA Pakistan as Provincial Coordinator for Sindh representing UNFPA Pakistan at national and international professional / business events. I enjoyed an extensive exposure to almost all public sector, private sector and donor community of Pakistan working in health in general and reproductive health in particular. My positive professional relationships with all stakeholders in Sindh and representing Sindh at federal and international level many times in these years have added valuable exposure to the developmental world of health in Pakistan.
She completed her tenure as Senior General Manager of Health Services Department in USAID MCH project executed in Sindh and Punjab by MSS Pakistan where I supervised the training, SMH and QA unit and was highly instrumental in capacity building of my team as well as myself with different TOT programs within the organisation at national and international levels besides developing leadership skills in management of team building. I was certified as Maser trainer by MSI London during my USAID project tenure.
Recently, she worked as Public health consultant /specialist with government of Sindh Health Department in a Public –Private –Partnership project, had opportunity to interact and collaborate with partners and donors of GoS Health department on managerial and public health issues and provided technical support to improve the management of health facilities given to partners.

Dr. Adnan Khan | Chief Knowledge Officer (Sukh Initiative) - Research and Development Solutions

Dr. Adnan Khan, MBBS, MS (Team Lead, Public Health Evaluations). Dr. Khan is a public health researcher who has served as the Chief of the National Health Policy Unit, as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Health Policy (Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, USA) and Global Public Health (Indiana University, IN, USA) and as an advisor to the WHO, UNAIDS and UNODC. He was team leader for RADS/ USAID Evidence to Policy Initiative that produced and promoted the use of over 50 information pieces by policy makers, journalists, donors and NGOs.
He has led a number of complex evaluations of public health interventions, including that of the Marvi program (by HANDS, funded by the Packard Foundation) which was a multi stage mixed quantitative-qualitative assessment that ended up the impact of the intervention across an entire district, explored reasons and lessons for success, cost benefit analysis and keys to replication. Other assessments include Family Planning interventions (currently for DFID, previously for GIZ, USAID, Marie Stopes Society, Dkt International), nutrition assessment (Micronutrient International, USAID) and others.
